Just a quick post covering how to setup and connect your awesome new Ryze DJI Tello drone to your smart phone or tablet and start flying! The first thing you should do after taking your Tello drone out of the box is to install the battery and plug it in. It can take a while to charge the first time, so get that going now.
- Download the Tello App and open it
- Tick the box and agree to Tello’s terms of use
- Next, the Tello app will ask for permission to user your location (so it can set it properly for your region) and for access to your photo library (so it can save pictures and videos to your device).
- Now, the Tello app instructs you to turn on the Tello drone, switch to your phones WiFi settings and join the Tello-xxxxx wifi network (where xxxxx is a mix of letters and numbers
- After connecting to the Tello drone’s WiFi, switch back to the Tello app. After activating, the Beginner’s Guide will come up and show you the basics of how to access the different controls and settings for your drone as well as the basic flight controls on the screen.
These are your basic virtual control sticks and what they do. Just place your fingers over each circle and slide your fingers up / down / left / right as if your thumbs are on a virtual remote control.
These are the indicators for battery / wifi / bluetooth / current drone speed and altitude
These are the controls for take off / landing, flight modes, settings and on the right are the playback and record controls.
The Flight Mode menu gives you access to several automated flight modes including fun tricks like Throw and GO take off, Flips, etc.

At this point you may want to buy some extra batteries for your Tello since sitting around waiting for your one and only battery to charge is boring. 🙂
